Filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami passed away on Monday at the age of 76. He was part of the Iranian New Wave during a time when Iran was a mecca for intellectual thought. His films were praised for their poetic, meditative portraits of human life. In his film Close Up, the lead character says, “For me, art is the experience of what you’ve felt inside.” That's clearly something that Kiarostami felt as well and portrayed so masterfully in his films. http://fusion.net/story/321705/abbas-kiarostami-art-political-film-iran/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Entertainment using http://wochit.com

Clinton Eastwood Jr. (born May 31, 1930) is an American actor, filmmaker, musician, and political figure. After achieving success in the Western TV series Rawhide, he rose to international fame with his role as the Man with No Name in Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy of Spaghetti Westerns during the 1960s, and as antihero cop Harry Callahan in the five Dirty Harry films throughout the 1970s and 1980s. These roles, among others, have made Eastwood an enduring cultural icon of masculinity.[18][19] For his work in the Western film Unforgiven (1992) and the sports drama Million Dollar Baby (2004), Eastwood won Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture, as well as receiving nominations for Best Actor. Eastwood's greatest commercial successes have been the adventure comedy Every Which Way But Loose (1978) and its sequel, the action comedy Any Which Way You Can (1980), after adjustment for inflation.[20] Other popular films include the Western Hang 'Em High (1968), the psychological thriller Play Misty for Me (1971), the crime film Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974), the Western The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), the prison film Escape from Alcatraz (1979), the action film Firefox (1982), the suspense thriller Tightrope (1984), the Western Pale Rider (1985), the war films Where Eagles Dare (1968), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Heartbreak Ridge (1986), the action thriller In the Line of Fire (1993), the romantic drama The Bridges of Madison County (1995), and the drama Gran Torino (2008). In addition to directing many of his own star vehicles, Eastwood has also directed films in which he did not appear, such as the mystery drama Mystic River (2003) and the war film Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), for which he received Academy Award nominations, the drama Changeling (2008), and the South African biographical political sports drama Invictus (2009). The war drama biopic American Sniper (2014) set box office records for the largest January release ever and was also the largest opening ever for an Eastwood film. Eastwood received considerable critical praise in France for several films, including some that were not well received in the United States. Eastwood has been awarded two of France's highest honors: in 1994 he became a recipient of the Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and in 2007 he was awarded the Legion of Honour medal. In 2000, Eastwood was awarded the Italian Venice Film Festival Golden Lion for lifetime achievement. Since 1967, Eastwood has run his own production company, Malpaso Productions, which has produced all but four of his American films. Starting in 1986, Eastwood served for two years as Mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, a non-partisan office. John Joseph "Jack" Nicholson (born April 22, 1937) is an American actor and filmmaker, who has performed for more than 60 years. Nicholson is known for playing a wide range of starring or supporting roles, including satirical comedy, romance and dark portrayals of antiheroes and psychopathic characters. In many of his films, he has played the "eternal outsider, the sardonic drifter", someone who rebels against the social structure.[1] Nicholson's 12 Academy Award nominations make him the most nominated male actor in the Academy's history. Nicholson has won the Academy Award for Best Actor twice, one for the drama One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) and the other for the romantic comedy As Good as It Gets (1997). He also won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the comedy-drama Terms of Endearment (1983). Nicholson is one of three male actors to win three Academy Awards. He has won six Golden Globe Awards, and received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2001. In 1994, he became one of the youngest actors to be awarded the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award.

Emile Francisco de Antonio (May 14, 1919 -- December 16, 1989) was an American director and producer of documentary films, usually detailing political or social events circa 1960s--1980s. About his films: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&tag=tra0c7-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=e62aac4f49cbe55bf3116531f33e746b&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=dvd&keywords=emile%20de%20antonio He has been referred to by scholars and critics alike, and arguably remains, "...the most important political filmmaker in the United States during the Cold War." de Antonio was born in 1919 in in the coal-mining town of Scranton, Pennsylvania. His father, Emilio de Antonio, an Italian immigrant, fostered the lifelong interests of Antonio by passing on his own love for philosophy, classical literature, history and the arts. Although his intelligence allowed him the privilege of attended Harvard University alongside future-president John F. Kennedy, he was also familiar with the working class experience, making his living at various points in his life as a peddler, a book editor, and the captain of a river barge (among other duties). After serving in the military during World War II as a bomber pilot, de Antonio returned to the United States where he frequented the art crowd, often associating with such Pop artists as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol, in whose film Drink de Antonio appears. Warhol was famously quoted praising de Antonio with the words, "Everything I learned about painting, I learned from De." The book Necessary Illusions (1989) by Noam Chomsky and the documentary Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992) by Mark Achbar and Peter Wintonick are dedicated to Emile de Antonio. For a parole violation? Sure he's not a political scapegoat for a film that apparently gave the Middle East one big fat hemorrhoid? Some would argue the assault on the American Embassy in Libya and ultimately the death of Christopher Stephens was a planned attack marking the anniversary of 9/11. Regardless, just like the Danish cartoons, there was an uproar in response to Nakoula's film 'Innocence of Muslims.' Nakoula has already been arrested for fraud. He uses countless aliases and to some he's a cult hero. He's also bad filmmaker bully dude. Bad politics could make him a martyr for free speech. The United Nations is taking on the film's aftermath in light of the overall instability of the Middle East this week in New York. From violence in Syria to the nuclear debacle between Iran and Israel, the film is pretty much pepper in the nostrils of everything that is wrong in the region... highlighting extremes of religious zealotry.

Filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami passed away on Monday at the age of 76. He was part of the Iranian New Wave during a time when Iran was a mecca for intellectual thought. Despite his country being overtaken by an authoritarian regime, his films remained surprisingly optimistic -- and perhaps that was his greatest political act.

Clinton "Clint" Eastwood Jr. is an American actor, filmmaker, musician, and political figure Clint Eastwood : A stalwart in the movie industry, you'd think he'd be used to receiving awards for his contributions to film, but remains dubious as to the importance of award shows for entertainers, seeing them as self-congratulatory and unnecessary. Still, he retains his sense of humor after a career playing brooding, scowling, gun-toting characters and directing critically acclaimed movies like Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby.
